Federal Financial Aid

Federal Financial Aid is available to assist qualified students. Financial aid is based upon need, which is defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as calculated through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is submitted electronically at fafsa.ed.gov. Once the FAFSA is submitted, the student should go to the Virtual Financial Aid Office (VFAO) at faithseminary.vfao.com to register as a User and complete a Student Interview. The FAFSA information will be used in the Student Interview to determine eligibility for Pell Grants (undergraduate only) or Student Loans (undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate). Confirmation of the completed Student Interview will be provided to the Financial Aid Office for verification, and then forwarded to the processor for certification and funding. We administer the following Federal Title IV aid programs:

Federal Pell Grant

This federally funded grant is based upon financial need and is limited to students in an undergraduate program (BAR or BAL).

Federal Family Educational Loan Program

Direct loans are made by the U.S. Department of Education. The interest rate can vary and is either subsidized or unsubsidized. The loan limit is determined by Federal guidelines. Repayment begins six months after graduation, when a borrower ceases to be enrolled at least half time, or ceases to make satisfactory academic progress.

All applicants for Federal financial aid are required to:

  1. Complete and file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with Faith Evangelical College & Seminary (School Code 03689400) being included as an institution to receive a Student Aid Report (SAR);
  2. Apply for admission to the institution;
  3. Be accepted into a degree program or pre-coursework (audit students, unclassified students, and special admission students are ineligible); and
  4. Be registered halftime or more and maintain satisfactory academic progress.

Helpful Hints

As many financial aid professionals know, default prevention begins long before graduates start repaying their loan. Make sure you communicate often with your students. You may even want to suggest some New Year’s resolutions for them:

  • I will live like a college student (keep luxuries to a minimum) now so that I won’t have to live like a college student later.
  • I will only borrow what I need to cover college expenses such as tuition, room and board, and books.
  • I will always be aware of how much I’ve borrowed in student loans and what the estimated monthly payments will be.
  • I will check www.nslds.ed.govto make sure the loan amounts reported match my records and to obtain servicer contact information.
  • I will contact my loan holder to discuss possible options if I am having trouble making my loan payments.
  • I will set up auto-payments for my student loans.
  • I will request a different repayment plan if needed.
  • I will notify my loan holder of any changes to my address, phone number, name, or enrollment status.
